HAITI is the poorest country in the western hemisphere and one of the poorest countries in the world. Sadly a 7.3 earthquake struck Haiti on January 12, 2010. Over 100,000 people have died with the total rising daily. Our nation, as well as many others, has come together to help this nation in need. The United States alone has given 100 million dollars to help Haiti in this time of need. It is wonderful to see the entire world uniting together for the cause in Haiti.
We as a school have stepped up big for the cause in Haiti. “It makes me feel real great,” says Haitian native Elie Haynes. “Never seen that much help before. God had a plan for the earthquake.”
The capital city of Port-au-Prince was the hardest city hit and is now overflowing with chaos. Hospitals, homes, stores, and even jails were destroyed. The crime rate is off the scales with the prisoners afoot. Thankfully this will not affect the Haiti mission trip which will take place during spring break. “I push and I push and I push, for one day all roads will lead to the chapel,” says Elie Haynes.
Perhaps Haiti was and is part of God's Big Plan to remind us all of why we're here and what's important. As a school, we have helped and we continue to help as we send financial aide, supplies, and lift those who continue to hurt up to God for relief and comfort.
