The GACS swim and dive teams just finished a spectacular season. This was only Coach Krug’s third season as the head swim coach at GAC, yet the team is getting better and better each year. With a large number of seniors participating on the swim and dive teams this season, they had a strong leadership influence that helped the team bond together well. Senior Kenzie Easley, a swimmer who has participated on the team her entire time during high school, said the team had a family closeness. “We loved coming together every day for a practice or a meet,” Easley said. “We felt like one big family.” This team’s connection with each other surely contributed to the special season they had this year.

The team started very strong, winning their first few meets. Senior and team captain Jack Olson was one of the crucial swimmers in these victories. They did have a few losses, yet they finished with a solid final record. Senior Garrett Wright said, “The team did well this season. I really am going to miss this amazing program at GAC.” With young talent on the team, we can only expect the team to continue improvement.

The swim team continued their season and managed to finish second overall for divisions A-AAA. The girls’ team that made it to state won second. The girls relay, led by Kathryn McGaughey, helped them seal their spot at second place when they finished first. Another girl, Thien-An Maynard, finished first place in her event, the breaststroke, and won a medal. The boys team managed to finish fourth overall with contributions from Jack Olson, Alex Wright, and others. Finally, Anthony Stewart, an elite diver who is signed to dive for the University of Louisville next year, won a state championship for diving. The success of both boys and girls swim and dive teams led to one of the best state performances GAC has ever had for this sport.
